Tasty Bread Rolls
A Quick to make Bread Roll that you can have with fillings of your choice! Especially useful when you are very hungry and also looking out for something crisp and tasty! A hot favorite for all Home parties! (I have given the recipe with two filling options)
Sandwich Bread Slices - 8 to 12 (Get the Bigger Sandwich Bread)
Please note that I have given the filling ingredients for Both the Potato filling and the Chinese type Spring roll fillings. You may try both of them.
For Potato Filling Rolls .....
Boiled Potatoes - 500 gms
Green Peas - 250 gms (Boiled or use the Mafco peas)
Capsicum - very finely chopped - 100 gms
Coriander - Finely chopped - As per taste.( 1/4 of a bunch is great)
Finely chopped Green Chillies or Chilly Powder - As per taste
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Salt - As required.
For Veg roll Fillings......
Finely chopped Spring onions - 1/4 bunch
Capsicum Very Finely chopped - 1 Capsicum Medium
Green Peas - (Mafco or half boiled) - 50 gms
Cabbage - Finely chopped - 100 gms
Grated Carrot (Optional as it gives a sweet taste) - 50 gms
For Chutney (If you have a fancy)
Dessicated Coconut - 100 gms
Green Chillies - finely chopped.- 50 gms
Coriander Finely chopped.
Mint Leaves - 50 gms
Salt and Sugar - to taste
For the preparation
Cutting Board / or big Steel plate.
Non-stick Frying Pan or Kadai
Oil for Deep Frying.
Shallow Bowl or dish with water.
Serving Plate with Tissues
Tangy Sweet and Sour or Hot and Sour Tomato Sauce for accompaniment.
A plate of dry Bread Crumbs to roll the Rolls before frying.
For the Optional Green Chutney
Grind the Grated Dessicated coconut, Green Chillies, Coriander, Mint leaves , along with Salt to taste in a Mixer and keep aside.
Firstly to get the filling ready -
Potato filling ...
Mash the potatoes, Green peas, Coriander, Finely Chopped Capsicum, Coriander, and mix well in a Steel bowl, to make it easy to roll out or place on the Bread slice. Add Salt, Turmeric powder, Chilly Powder or Finely Chopped Chillies (As per individual taste liking), and mix well. Test taste to get a slightly Spicy mix. Keep aside.
For Veg filling Rolls.....
Mix well the finely chopped Vegetables - i.e. Spring onions, Capsicum, Green peas, Cabbage, Grated Carrot (Optional), and add salt, chillies/ Chilly Powder to taste, and keep aside
For the Rolls
For best results - Cut out the borders of Bread slice to get a soft Square bread slice.
For Frying keep ready Kadai with enough oil to deep fry the rolls on medium heat.
Use the Cutting board or Table for all rolling or cutting work.
Keep one shallow bowl or tray with water to dip the bread slices.
Take one Bread slice on your palm and dip it quickly in the tray or bowl filled with water, and quickly draw it out. With Both hands squeeze out the excess water keeping the slice moist enough to be able to fold/roll it. With experience you will get to know how much the slice needs to be wet.
Keep the squeezed slice on the Tray.
Lay out enough of either of the Fillings with a spoon on to end of the Slice, enough to be able to roll the bread slice without breaking the roll.
Slowly roll over from the corner the filling along with the bread neatly to form a smooth roll.
Fold in the corners just enough to close the open face of the rolls at either side.
Keep aside to Fry all at one time - also giving it enough time to dry a bit so that you can roll it in the Bread crumbs kept aside in a plate, just before frying.
Prepare each roll as given above, and just before releasing them in the Frying Kadai, roll them over in the bread crumbs taking care to shake off the excess crumbs.
Deep fry at medium flame to get a even Golden Colour and also taking care to ensure that the filling inside gets cooked just right. Experience will get you the right touch.
After frying keep on Tissue to drain off any excess oil.
Serve with Sauce and Green Chutney....
